"Anti" Trump results are piling up on Google

It is also clear that it is essentially a quantitative analysis that does not reveal whether a factually reasoned comment is posted on the web or a joke is spread at the President's expense.

When Searchmetrics compared the SEO Visibility for Google of 76 top news sites in English over time, it found that the visibility of more liberal sites had increased since Donald Trump's inauguration in January 2017. Over the same period, the conservative media websites, which are more positive for Trump, have only a marginal absolute improvement in visibility on Google searches.

To the study

Searchmetrics analyzed the top 10 search results in four search engines (Google.com, Yahoo.com, Bing.com, Duckduckgo.com) and five social networks (Tumblr.com, Pinterest.com, Twitter.com, Instagram.com, 9GAG.com) ) based on 250 Trump-related keywords (including terms like donald trump on immigration, donald trump on education, donald trump biograph, or donald trump policies). The mood of the results was rated either as pro Trump, neutral or anti Trump.

The algorithms used by search engines and social networks to determine the ranking of the results also take into account personal browsing history, interests, location and many other factors. Different users will therefore see different results.

For this study, a US user with the address 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Washington DC - the address of the White House - was simulated to simulate a search by Trump himself.

Searchmetrics measures search transparency

Searchmetrics measures the visibility of websites within search engines using the company's SEO Visibility Score and monitors the organic search results of millions of keywords that are used to calculate the SEO Visibility Score. The SEO Visibility Score for a website is based on data such as:

• The frequency with which a domain is displayed in the search result pages (SERPs) of the keyword set,
• The prominence within these SERPs (a higher ranking corresponds to a higher visibility value),
• The competitiveness of the keyword (higher search volumes correspond to a higher visibility value).
