Listen on Amazon Music

How long does it take to create an unforgettable track? If it is up to J. Cole and his producer Minus-T, no longer than a day. In just 24 hours, the two managed to write “Middle Child” and then record it. The title of the song is a metaphor for the situation in which the Frankfurt-born rapper sees himself. In plain language, this describes his position as a link between the old and new rap generation. As middle-aged children also experience in families, the artist complains about the little attention he and his kind are given. On the one hand, the rapper calculates tough accounts with his genre colleagues, but also emphasizes the undisputed value of the new hip-hop movement. "Middle Child" was able to secure 4th place on the US Billboard Hot 100, which also made the song the greatest commercial success for J.Cole.

2nd place: Logic feat. Eminem - "Homicide"

Listen on Amazon Music

The rumor mill has long been simmering about a collaboration between the two US rappers. What fans had long suspected and hoped for finally became a reality in 2019. Veteran hip-hop Eminem and his longtime admirer Logic teamed up. This collaboration is also quite understandable outside of the commercial dodging. After all, the two artists' lives show enormous parallels. Both come from difficult family backgrounds, grew up in socially disadvantaged areas and were abandoned by their fathers. Just like white bread Eminem, Logic has long been ridiculed and ridiculed by long-established artists. How wonderfully Slim Shady and his foster son work together in spirit is proven by the tough high-speed lines of both artists, which are in no way inferior to each other. While the track reached fifth place in the US charts, it also entered the top ten in Australia, New Zealand and Finland.

3rd place: Lil Tecca - "Ransom"

Listen on Amazon Music

"Ransom" by Lil Tecca is the prime example of a newcomer who storms straight into the charts like a phoenix from the ashes. Actually, the youngster, who at the time of the publication of the track was only 16 years old, wanted to become a professional athlete. Instead of basketball, the American now throws lines around, which find their way to the goal just as dreamily as the famous fade-away throws by Dirk Nowitzki once did. The artist, who says he has already recorded 81 songs, describes the sunny side of life in his song. Typically for the scene, this includes flexing with all sorts of classy bling bling and various shooters. Even if the content is not exactly suspicious of the Grimme Prize, the vibe that emanates from “Ransom” lingers in the listener's ears for a long time. Hip-hop fans from various nations also paid tribute to this fact, so that the song was among the top ten sales lists in the USA, Great Britain, Sweden, Portugal and Canada.

4th place: DaBaby - "Suge"

Listen on Amazon Music

DaBaby's real name is Jonathan Kirk and comes from the US state North Carolina. The song "Suge" is a single from the artist's rap debut album, which is entitled "Baby on Baby". The title of the track is again an allusion to your former hip-hop manager Suge Knight, who once worked with Dr. Dre founded the legendary label "Death Row Records". In "Suge", DaBaby proves his richness in rap technical facets. That's why the song was also considered the strongest song on the album by many critics. Produced by Pooh Beatz and JetsonMade, the track was downloaded more than a million times in the United States, ultimately earning it platinum status.

5th place: 21 Savage feat. J. Cole - "a lot"

Listen on Amazon Music

In “a lot” the rapper 21 Savage tells us about the things that he owns or has experienced in abundance. In particular, the artist has to deal with a lot of money, problems and lawyers. The structure of the song provides that the rapper answers questions about the number of doubters, lost friends or love affairs with "a lot" over and over again. “A lot” should also be the answer to the number of copies of the work sold. In the USA alone there were more than 2,000,000 buyers, which should ultimately give the title double platinum status.

6th place: Boogie feat. Eminem - "Rainy Days"

Listen on Amazon Music

In "Rainy Days" Eminem gives his label protégé Boogie a skilful support. The young rapper is rightly touted as the new Kendrick Lamar in specialist circles. In the foreground of the song, however, is undisputed Slim Shady, while the pupil is noticeably reserved. In keeping with the title of the track, the two artists shot a music video in which the raindrops just splash around. At the same time, Eminem can't help giving a few swipes to those critics who accuse the legend of denigrating his own rap legacy.

7th place: Joyner Lucas feat. Logic - "ISIS (ADHD)"

Listen on Amazon Music

A while ago it would have been unthinkable that the two artists Joyner Lucas and Logic would publish a song together. The relationship between the two consisted largely of mutual taunts and hurt egos. With the appearance of "ISIS" the tide turned in an unexpected and echoing way. The former antipodes shoot around on the track, following the macabre title of the song, numerous rappers are downright shot at. The collaboration between the two doubletime experts represents the climax of the promo phase for Lucas ‘album" ADHD "and charted at number 59 in the USA.

8th place: YNW Melly feat. Kanye West - "Mixed Personalities"

Listen on Amazon Music

The musical collaboration between Kanye West and up-and-coming artist YNW Melly shows that split personalities can have artistic value. The music video that goes with it is in no way inferior to the ambivalent content of the song, which visualizes the blatant schizophrenia with a futuristic note. At the moment, however, YNW Melly is likely to have completely different concerns. The rapper is currently in jail on suspicion of double murder.

9th place: A $ AP Ferg feat. A $ AP Rocky - "Pups"

Listen on Amazon Music

The dog in the pan is going crazy! The title of the rap song, of course, does not describe escaping intestinal gases, but is the English word for "puppy". In the video for the animal hit, however, we by no means see a civilized animal shelter visit, but dive up to our necks in neon light underlined by Trap. The title produced by Frankie P convinces with its aggressive sound, but should miss a place in the charts.

Rank 10: Juju feat. Henning May - "Missing"

Listen on Amazon Music

Let's dare to take a look at our home country. There the former SXTN member Juju surprised us with her hitherto largely unknown emotional side. The rasping voice of AnnenMayKantereit frontman Henning May has undoubtedly played a major role in this. The song is about the emotional chaos that can trigger a separation in us. A situation that each of us has definitely been through before. So the song also tears open wounds in our listeners that seem to have healed long ago. We welcome the depth that Juju gives her fans in the form of “Missing” and see the number as a skillful change from the many party hits. The single release of the album "Bling Bling" secured the chart throne in Germany and even achieved gold status.

11th place: Sido feat. Johannes Oerding - "Pyramids"

Listen on Amazon Music

In his release “Pyramiden”, which is on the album “Ich und kein Maske”, Sido shows us once again how grown up he has become. The days of songs that are exclusively about youthful jokes are long gone. Together with the singer-songwriter Johannes Oerding, the Berliner deals with socially relevant issues such as animal welfare, current drug policy, or the feminist movement. The values prevailing in the population are critically questioned and the listeners are encouraged to rethink at the same time. "Pyramiden" reached the 38th place in the charts in this country. In Austria and Switzerland, however, it had to be content with positions 50 and 47. In view of the fact that the accompanying album found itself in the first place of the hit lists, Sido should have coped with the mediocre commercial success of the single.

Rank 12: Mustard feat. Migos - "Pure Water"

Listen on Amazon Music

It is said that water is healthy. That's why you definitely can't go wrong if you acoustically incorporate the cool water in the form of "Pure Water". Mustard brought the rap trio Migos on board for the boozy hip-hop excursion. The collaboration can be seen as a small reunion of the three artists who have only been heard separately since the release of “Culture II” last year. The sound that flows through “Pure Water” proves that they can still do it together. Critics especially praised the Mustard-typical West Coast minimalism, which runs like a red thread through the track. The reward was 10th place in the US Billboard Hot 100. In total, “Pure Water” was sold over a million times, and consequently the song was awarded platinum status.

Rank 13: Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus - "Old Town Road"

Listen on Amazon Music

The next place in the list of the best hip-hop songs of 2019 goes to country star Billy Ray Cyrus and rapper Lil Nas X. Opinions are divided on whether the title can even be counted as classic rap. After all, the number convinces above all with its ostensible country sound, which makes us bob our feet ecstatically. However, the song was thrown off the country charts in the USA because those who understood something were of the opinion that "Old Town Road" had too few modern country passages in it. In the end, we don't care how one categorically classifies the song. We find the mixture of country music and trap beats unique and successful. We are also of the opinion that the hit has an unlikely repeatability and that it has long since mutated into a global phenomenon for nothing.

Rank 14: Drake feat. Rick Ross - "Money in the grave"

Listen on Amazon Music

The year 2019 was a historic one for the players and officials of the Toronto Raptors. They succeeded in becoming the first Canadian team to secure the long-awaited NBA title. To honor this sporting achievement, the artists Drake and Rick Ross dedicated their own victory anthem to “their” team with “Money in the grave”. The title is part of the EP "The Best in the World Pack", which consists of two songs. In addition to “Money in the grave” there is also the title “Omertà” on the record. In this country, the praise of the basket hunters was able to place itself at number 57 on the sales lists, while in the USA it even jumped seventh on the Billboard Hot 100.

15th place: KUMMER - "9010"

Listen on Amazon Music

While Felix Kummer only found his way into our ears with his band Kraftklub for a long time, the German rapper released his first solo album "Kiox" in 2019. As we are used to from previous titles, the tracks on the artist's debut album also deal primarily with social problems in Germany. We get this from the rebellious eyes of a late twenties who doesn't really want to grow up. By far the strongest number on the record is, in our opinion, “9010”. Kummer raps about an aging neo-Nazi whom he meets again after a long time. This is in a miserable condition, but the artist does not give it any satisfaction. Instead, grief feels sorry for the failed existence, which is representative of an entire generation. In the meantime, the Kraftklub singer has established himself in first place in the German album charts.

16th place: 2 Chainz - "I Said Me"

Listen on Amazon Music

2 Chainz's real name is Tauheed Epps and was previously known as a member of Playaz Circle. However, since 2007 the American has been on the road as a solo artist and has since released five studio albums, which became a great commercial success, especially in the United States. So also “Rap Or Go to the League” entered fourth place in the US charts, while the record in this country should only be known to die-hard connoisseurs. The song "I Said Me" stands out from the album. In the course of the track, the artist processes his own past, which can roughly be reduced to his existence as a drug dealer. The musical processing of one's own life is accompanied by impressive piano beats.

17th place: Ed Sheeran feat. Eminem & 50 Cent - "Remember The Name"

Listen on Amazon Music

Take what is probably the most important pop musician at the moment and add two rap legends to him. Is it really surprising that the result of the three world stars is a track that took the charts by storm? The song mainly takes the career of the now world-famous redhead as its content. In detail, this means that the singer prevailed against all odds and realized his great dream. The rap parts of Eminem and 50 Cent are in the same line and complement Ed Sheeran's vocals perfectly.

18th place: Capital Bra & Samra - "Tilidin"

Listen on Amazon Music

Capital Bra and Samra are currently storming the charts with their collaboration album “Berlin Lebt 2”. As an example of the collaboration between the two rappers, “Tilidin” can be mentioned at this point. The track is pervaded by the things that make up the two artists. In detail, this is the consumption of drugs and alcohol, which is contrary to the relationship with one's own family. Nevertheless, the rappers are proud of what they have achieved. So they never tire of mentioning which luxury goods they can all call their own today. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the decoupling was able to get hold of the top of the hit lists.

Rank 19: Denzel Curry - "Ricky"

Listen on Amazon Music

For a long time, fans of the US rapper Denzel Curry waited for a new solo song of their favorite. In 2019 the time had finally come when the artist once again released a single track with "Ricky" after numerous collaborations. The song is about the father of the rapper, from which the title of the single can be derived. The piece was produced by FNZ. The clip for the song also pays homage to the so-called "backyard brawls". These are tough fist fights that take place in hidden backyards.

20th place: Polo G feat. Lil Tjay - "Pop Out"

Listen on Amazon Music

In 20th place we would like to recommend you “Pop Out” by Polo G and Lil Tjay. The title is gangster rap in its purest form and describes exactly why you shouldn't invite the two artists to your house party. “Pop Out” gives you in the middle of the twelve without falling into aggressive beats.
