Is Gleyber Torres better than Derek Jeter

MLB - Yankees: Top talent Gleyber Torres leaves Spiel with back problems prematurely

Gleyber Torres, the top talent of the New York Yankees, had to leave the Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre game early on Monday. The back had caused problems.

After two at-bats, it was over for Torres. At first, this had led to speculation that the Yankees had called him to the MLB team. But General Manager Brian Cashman put a stop to that. Rather, Torres' replacement was purely a precautionary measure on a very cold evening (around 9 degrees Celsius).

Torres had a brilliant start to the season and was voted International League Player of the Week. Overall, he beats .385 with a home run and ten RBI in ten games. Torres ranks fifth best prospect in baseball according to the MLB pipeline.

If the Yankees waited until Wednesday to promote him, Torres would have spent 20 days in the minor leagues that season and could not have a year of Service Time in 2018. Thus, the Yankees would have seven instead of the usual six years, i.e. until the end of the 2024 season, team control over the shortstop.

However, Cashman emphasized in the offseason that this is not "part of my evaluation process". "We try to win games. Every win is valuable to us," said Cashman.
