What is Fold3 at Ancestry

Only the sub-database Holocaust Collection was further licensed after the trial period.

Until November 16, 2016 the Fold3 Library Edition database can be tested free of charge via the FU campus network.

The Fold3 Library Edition from Ancestry provides access to lists and documents of the US military, including background reports, pictures and other documents on male and female military members who have served. The database has more than 500 million entries from numerous well-known archives, many of which are exclusively accessible from Fold3, according to the provider. The target audience is historians, genealogists, researchers, friends of military history, veterans and their families, teachers and battle actors.

Military conflicts dealt with are:

  • American War of Independence
  • British-American War of 1812
  • Mexican-American War and Early Indian Wars
  • Civil War
  • Spanish-American War
  • First World War
  • Second World War
  • Korean War
  • Vietnam War
  • Recent conflicts
  • International conflicts

The result lists, some of which are large due to the abundance of entries, can be filtered using additional filters such as war, period, US state, military unit, etc. The full texts can be downloaded as PDF files for personal use.
