Which country makes the best Merlot


The French Merlot is one of the most popular red wine varieties in the world. Its origin can be traced back to Bordelais, nowadays this vine can be found especially around the Bordeaux wine-growing region. It is also used in the wine of the same name, as it harmonizes particularly well with other varieties. The most exclusive wine in the world, the Château Pétrus, is also made from Merlot grapes. The variety is mainly used in cuvées together with Cabernet Sauvignon, but single-variety Merlot wines also exist overseas.

Merlot: French excellence

Some of the best Merlots in the world come from France, where the vine comes from. The variety is mainly grown around Bordeaux. But other sufficiently warm areas also provide good conditions for the vine. Excellent Merlot wines also come from Italy and Germany.
