How is Clean India now

India is an emerging country whose economy and industry are developing rapidly. The country is a member of the group of the twenty most important industrialized and emerging countries (G20) as well as the Association of Emerging Economies BRICS - named after its member states Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Despite its dynamic economic development, poverty and other socio-economic problems still pose major challenges for the country. Population growth and accelerated urbanization are endangering the environment and causing greenhouse gas emissions to continue to rise.

GIZ's thematic areas in India are:

  • energy
  • Environment, climate change and biodiversity
  • Sustainable urban and industrial development
  • Sustainable economic development

GIZ India's main clients are the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). We also work for clients from the Indian public sector, the European Union and foundations.

The Indian government has launched numerous important initiatives to tackle the country's economic, ecological and social problems - GIZ is involved in the most important of these initiatives. We support Indian programs such as Smart Cities, Clean India and Skill India. In close cooperation with its Indian partners, GIZ develops tailor-made solutions to meet local needs and support sustainable, inclusive development.
