In Phantom Brave, weapons have a much greater effect on a character's stats than their natural affinity. The maximum obtainable character level is While on Phantom Isle, a character class called Dungeon Monk can be asked to create a random dungeon.

Some characteristics of the dungeon can be seen before creation, including the type and general number of enemies present, the floor conditions, and if the use of equipped weapons is restricted or not.

Dungeons also have titles, which are applied to every enemy in the dungeon. As the floors of the dungeon are cleared, the title of the dungeon will improve.

These titles can later be removed and placed on player characters or weapons to alter their stats. Random dungeons can also be retitled. A popular leveling trick is to give a random dungeon the "failure" title, allowing the player to beat hordes of high level enemies easily.

Random dungeons tend to take the form of a linear series of floors, although occasionally a floor may have a special named layout for example, "Self-Styled God" floors have a stronger enemy in the center of a terraced layout.

These floors occur randomly and confer an extra bonus upon completion. Unlike in Disgaea, where to descend to the next floor one may merely move a character to a certain panel, in Phantom Brave one must defeat all the enemies present to continue. To leave a random dungeon, one must either clear every floor, or use a Dungeon Monk's Return skill, which costs money proportional to the current depth. While between battles, Marona can return to her home; Phantom Island, where she can summon create new phantoms to aid her in future battles.

The player starts off by being able to create characters from a limited selection of classes, but each class of enemy that is defeated in battle is added to the selection of phantoms the player may summon.

Summoning phantoms requires only a nominal fee, but new phantoms always join at level 1 no matter when they are summoned. Marona's phantoms populate the island, and the player can converse with them. Many classes have a special utility on the island; Merchants sell items, Healers can recover the damage that units have sustained Fusionists can combine characters and items, Witches allow the player to reorder a character or weapon's spells and skills, and Blacksmiths combine mana with weapons to either level them up or to awaken latent skills hidden in the weapon.

Phantom Isle hides several secret items and character classes, such as the Changebook, which allows the player to switch the character they explore the map with. Phantom Brave has a series of extra maps following the main storyline. These post-game maps offer more powerful enemies and feature cameos by some members of the cast of the Disgaea games as enemies. After defeating these characters they will join the player's pool of playable characters as "phantom doubles".

While the first couple of extra maps can be completed immediately after the main story, the later extra maps are very difficult and require a large amount of time invested into the game to be spent leveling characters and fusing weapons before they can be completed.

Kaori Mizuhashi Japanese ; Sandy Fox English The heroine of the game, Marona is a year-old girl who has the ability to see and communicate with phantoms, a set of abilities collectively known in-game as "Chartreuse".

This power enables her to make a living as a Chroma, a kind of adventurer-for-hire, despite being at such a young age, but it also makes her feared and shunned by other people, many thinking that she is possessed. She lost her parents when she was five, but Ash, a friend of her parents and a former Chroma-turned-phantom, came back to protect Marona after the demise of her parents and himself.

When he was alive he worked alongside Marona's parents as a Chroma. After dying along with them, he found himself stuck between life and death, thanks to the efforts of Marona's father. He has since sworn to watch over and protect Marona, feeling that he owes Marona's parents for being the only one to "survive" their unfortunate demise. He is usually careful and well-intentioned, if overprotective of Marona, but is sometimes known to frighten the unwary when he accidentally speaks aloud while concealed in his phantom form.

An alternate universe version of Walnut joins Marona and company as a playable character in "Another Marona", a side story that is exclusive to the Wii and PSP versions of the game. According to an after-game bonus map in the PS2 game Makai Kingdom: Chronicles of the Sacred TomeCastile eventually recovers from the sickness that keeps her in bed and becomes healthy enough to fight alongside Marona, while searching for signs that her brother Walnut may still be alive. She is generous and polite to a fault, but her calm demeanor holds a few secrets.

Carona appears in Ivoire just after a mysterious veil of darkness claimed the lives of all of the peoples of Ivoire, save Marona. Shame though you haven't found some place that says it will be significantly more powerful.

The rest were pure maths units which was overkill for physics and really inefficient for graphics since it had to do all sorts of hoop jumping to render it along side the GPU which sits on it's own memory with terrible bandwidth between them. While the Cell was suppost to be used in super computers, it mostly found it's way in to that application via PS3 clusters. As long as Nintendo makes a game console, not a super computer tech demo masquerading as a console, price won't be an issue.

What I worry about the new Nintendo console is the price of the controllers, it's getting out of control. NinSage April 28, Quote from: As for motion controls, my guess is Nintendo will make the existing Wiimote Plus work with Project Cafe.

Sure, they might release a new one that is cosmetically consistent with the new console. Ceric April 28, http: Which would be similar in somethings. If I were Nintendo I take a small margin because its only an enabler to move software. I would really like those numbers and the breakdown cost. Anything more isn't feasible. So I also popped my DS card back in couple of weeks ago and started playing again I had stopped at the spot with Magus' first encounter.

Now I am bit further, and can't put the game down. It was the first mass consumer device with that technology shipping orders of magnitude more drives than any of the competing movie players at that time.

Clearly, such a component is not nearly as expensive these days, and that goes for other tech as well. This new console will be more about Nintendo catching up to industry standards than about exceeding those standards.

Because they are coming into it so late, it will be far more cost-effective for them. I have no doubt that Sony and Microsoft will follow-up with much more powerful hardware, but that will be a couple of years later at significantly higher prices. Jonnyboy I have no doubt that Sony and Microsoft will follow-up with much more powerful hardware, but that will be a couple of years later at significantly higher prices.

It's clear that the tech is available, yes, but with dev prices already as insanely high as they are now, would devs be able to afford to make games for a system that's much more powerful than what we have at this moment?

They've certainly shown that they generally can't squeeze a profit from the current prices; wouldn't going much higher just ensure that they'll get as little third-party support as Nintendo does now? Ceric April 29, Quote from: I honestly think Dev costs won't go much up from here once everything settles at p assets.

Thats going to be the biggest for a while. No one is truly ready for the next jump yet. In fact I think the next bump will bring more parity to the systems. Unfortunately, that means less bang for more bucks - and that's not a business model I'm psyched about. So, I would love it if Nintendo kept doing "their thing" - lower costs and better IMO gaming experiences. Now, I know that admiring Nintendo and not caring about dick-waving system specs must mean I'm a """fan boy.

Or is it gonna be like how they still think we're in the PS2's life cycle because the thing keeps selling? Ceric April 30, Quote from: To be honest as a Game System the PS3 is a flop.

Ceric I honestly think Dev costs won't go much up from here once everything settles at p assets. That's what I'm thinking too. The hardware to make consoles have far more horsepower than we have now is certainly commercially viable. The PC, for example, has been able to outstrip the HD consoles for years now, as it has in every previous generation, but this is the first generation I can remember where PC games don't really go far above-and-beyond, in terms of horsepower, above their console counterparts.

I have to imagine it's due to commercial viability: Like ninsage, I have to imagine that the HD consoles are near the cieling of what's commercially viable, in terms of dev costs, at least until much better dev tools become available.

Phantom Brave: We Meet Again - Final Boss: Sulphur

If that's the case, can the new MS and Sony consoles really be a huge leap, horsepower-wise, beyond the current HD consoles? Crimm It's already been semi-confirmed they're both targeting two years from now for their new systems True, but that's not what I was getting at. I've no doubt that new consoles are coming from MS and Sony. I must doubt that those new consoles will be "much" more powerful. Stream will likely end up being the weakest of the three, but only to the degree that the PS2 was weaker than the Gamecube and Xbox.

I think MS and Sony will have to pull a Wii, and make something beyond mere added horsepower be the primary hook of their new system.
