How can I check my own code?

Receive verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication

With two-factor authentication, you need a verification code in order to sign in with your Apple ID on a new device or in a new browser.

Whenever you sign in to a new device or browser with your Apple ID, you'll need to confirm your identity with your password and a six-digit numeric verification code. There are several ways to get your verification code. The code can be viewed on a trusted device, sent as SMS, over the phone, or generated on a trusted device.

If you're using iOS 11.3 or later on your iPhone, you may not need to enter a verification code. In some cases, your trusted phone number can be verified automatically in the background on your iPhone. This means you don't have to worry about one thing, and your account is still protected by two-factor authentication.

Use code shown on trusted device

If you have a trusted device with iOS 9 and later, OS X El Capitan and later, iPadOS 13 and later, or watchOS 6 and later, the verification code will automatically appear on your trusted devices.

  1. Sign in to a new device or browser with your Apple ID and password.
  2. Look for a login notification on any of your trusted devices.
  3. Tap "Allow" to receive your verification code.
  4. Enter the verification code on your other device to sign in.

Receive SMS or phone call

If you don't have a trustworthy device at hand, you can have the verification code sent as a text message or by phone to a trustworthy number.

  1. On the login screen, click "Didn't get a verification code?"
  2. Choose to have the code sent to your trusted phone number.
  3. You will receive a text message or a phone call from Apple with your verification code.
  4. Enter the verification code on your other device to sign in.

Received a code in the settings of a trusted device

If you can't get a verification code automatically on a trusted device, you can get one in the settings even if the device is offline.

On the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

When your device is online:

  1. Go to Settings> [your name].
  2. Tap Password & Security> Get Verification Code.

If your device is offline:

  1. Go to Settings> [your name].
  2. Tap on "Password & Security".
  3. The message "Account details not available" appears. Tap Get Verification Code.

On the Mac

  1. Go to the Apple menu ()> System Preferences and click Apple ID.
  2. Click on "Password & Security"> "Receive Verification Code".
