«Played backwards you can hear satanic messages in Nickelback songs. But it is worse to play the songs normally, because then you can hear Nickelback. " Nickelback has been listening to such sayings for years. But: how uncool is the Canadian successful band really?

With Nickelback in Zurich's Hallenstadion and the Foo Fighters in Bern's Stade de Suisse, two guitar bands are making guest appearances in Switzerland this week, which could not be perceived more differently. Both bands sell millions of albums. But while the Foo Fighters are showered with fanatic love, the world seems to passionately hate Nickelback.

Why are Nickelback considered infinitely uncool?

Nickelback have an authenticity problem. They are a little of everything and do not stand for anything. Many also resented the band for releasing their song "Rockstar" for upright furniture advertising. The band's painfully fluffy wardrobe helps the coolness factor just as little as the helpless haircuts by frontman Chad Kroeger.

This band is as far removed from the rock attitude as Michael Mittermeier is from fine humor.

The Canadians provide limitless targets for criticism and stupid slogans. And so, for critics, writing Nickelback pans has long been a sport.

Is Nickelback really that uncool?

Oh how I would love to write Nickelback in the coolness heaven here. But with the best will in the world, I can't do that. Hence: yes. Nickelback are totally uncool. And one of the most boring bands I have ever met. It is a crime to see Nickelback muddle grunge elements in their misinterpretation of hard rock. This band is as far removed from the rock attitude as Michael Mittermeier is from fine humor.

And for everyone who now says: Ok. But they can write songs. I just say: Ok. They can write songs. And DJ Bobo can rap.

Why are the Foo Fighters considered infinitely cool?

Much of the coolness factor of the Foo Fighters has to do with their front man Dave Grohl. But far from everything. It speaks for itself that drummer Taylor Hawkins left Alanis Morissette to join the Foo Fighters, which were by no means so successful at the time. It testifies to a great musical heart, how the Foo Fighters punk legend and guitarist Pat Smear let go in 1997 and later recorded again.

The Foo Fighters have managed to be more than the band of the legendary Nirvana drummer.

The Foo Fighters have always been close to the music and close to their fans. No wonder. Ultimately, pure rock fan blood flows through the veins of this band, which makes their continued enjoyment of what they do believable.

Are the Foo Fighters really that cool?

Apart from the fact that Dave Grohl is now one of the musicians who drag their children onto the stage, Link opens in a new window to show the world the talent of their breed, the FFs are a thoroughly cool band.

The Foo Fighters have managed to be more than the band of the legendary Nirvana drummer. Grohl established himself as a front man and repeatedly surprised his fans with ambitious projects. For example, when he decided to record the album “Wasting Light” (2011) in his garage.

Nickelback 0: 1000 Foo Fighters

The Foo Fighters are one of those bands that do what feels right for them. They'd go to a studio tomorrow to do an ABBA cover album if they felt like it.

Nickelback, on the other hand, will try to rock for a lifetime just because they formed a band at some point. They chase their guitars through thick effects devices, shout constructed rock cliché lyrics into the microphone and will never understand what Lemmy Kilmister meant for rock'n'roll.

    I totally agree ...
If we're already making a direct comparison, it wasn't even Dave Grohl himself who once said as a joke (?) About Nickelback that it was bad to hear her playing backwards, because then satanic messages would be spread. But it is even worse to hear them "normally", because then they just sound like Nickelback :)))
In the sense: next stop tomorrow Stade de Suisse !!! :)

sorry, I think "satanistic" would be the correct term ... Tjä nu :)
And one more addendum to "next stop tomorrow Stade de Suisse", if you are weatherproof and spontaneous and prefer to see the concert live instead of listening to it on the radio (sorry, SRF 3 guys, but yeah yeah nöd: P), I still have one standing ticket left. Just let me know;)
